Dan Shaw was more than an influence on the NYS Training Council. In his brief but remarkable involvement with the NYS Training Council, he played many roles: leader, negotiator, peacekeeper, promoter of good will, progressive thinker, envoy of hope and change, and an extraordinary representative for his agency, the NYS Department of Transportation, as well as the New York State training community. In short, he was the essence of the word "ambassador." This award presented in Dan's name recognizes an individual who embodies Dan's ambassadorial spirit and selfless contributions; a person who has gone the extra mile, while taking on and responding to challenges, thereby benefiting the NYS Training Council and its constituents.

Following the formal nomination and review period, the Daniel M. Shaw Ambassador Award recipient is announced and honored at the NYSTDC's Annual Institute.
